September 2026 fact check: Semrush now offers both broad AI visibility research and daily tracking for specific prompts. The base plan advertises 25 custom prompts at $99 per month billed annually. These are current vendor-reported plan details , not results from a new run of our panel.
What the toolkit actually tracks
The old shorthand of “domain-based only” no longer fits. Semrush says Prompt Tracking can follow exact questions in ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini, with cited sources and competitor visibility for those prompts. Its Prompt Tracking guide also explains the 25-prompt base cap and daily updates.
The wider toolkit uses more than one dataset. Semrush describes Brand Performance and research across Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, while custom Prompt Tracking has its own selectable platforms and cadence. Where it earns its place
For a team already working in Semrush, the practical advantage is one workflow for prompt research, competitor comparisons, tracked citations and technical site checks. A trial should test whether the cited-page report leads to a specific edit your team can make, not merely whether the dashboard finds a mention.
Where to be careful
The base prompt allowance can run out quickly if you split campaigns by product, language or location. Semrush says its reports draw on different sources and update at different intervals, so ask which report produced any number before comparing it with a daily prompt series.
