Similarweb Gen AI Intelligence vs. Ahrefs Brand Radar

Start with the decision

Choose the question your team must answer first. Similarweb joins AI answer visibility with an AI Traffic view of referred visits, competitor traffic and landing pages. Ahrefs Brand Radar joins a broad AI Visibility Index with a separately priced custom-prompt workflow. Both expose citations, but their datasets and allowances are different. What the public entry offers say

Similarweb's AEO Intelligence page displays $99 and lists one user, 150 tracked prompts, three months of history, AI Brand Visibility, citation and sentiment analysis, and AI Traffic. Ahrefs lists custom prompts from $50 per month with 2,500 checks, while AI Visibility Index access begins at $199 per month for a single platform. The $50 tier is not the full index. A check is one prompt execution for one selected platform and location; cadence changes consumption. Prompt evidence is not the same unit

Ahrefs explicitly lets you define your own exact buyer questions, select AI assistants and locations, and run them daily, weekly or monthly. Its large index is a separate, search-backed dataset for finding topics and cited sources. Do not treat 2,500 checks as 2,500 distinct prompts. Read Ahrefs' custom-prompt setup .

Similarweb's Gen AI guide describes normalized real-user prompts and a daily refreshed Brand Visibility view. Its detailed Prompt Analysis guide specifically describes ChatGPT answers, brands and exact cited sources. The broader product page also lists referral traffic from ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and AI Mode. That marketing breadth does not establish the same prompt-level engine coverage or the ability to upload your own fixed question set. Ask for a module-by-module demonstration. What happens after a finding

If the business question is whether AI products send visits to your own or competitors' pages, Similarweb's AI Traffic view is directly relevant. A fair trial

Bring 12 real buyer questions and three competitor domains. Ask both vendors to show the prompt, response, cited URL, date, engine and location behind a reported mention. Check whether you can keep the same question list across weeks. For Similarweb, compare AI referral landing pages with your site's analytics. For Ahrefs, estimate monthly checks from prompt × platform × location × cadence, then decide whether the index adds enough discovery value to justify its separate price.

Which buyer fits each?

Similarweb is worth a pilot when the same team owns AI answer visibility and channel or competitor traffic reporting. Ahrefs is worth a pilot when exact custom prompts, source discovery and existing SEO research are the priority. Neither advertised entry number proves the total cost or effectiveness of your workflow. Ask for an export sample and written plan terms before purchasing.
